Incredible Gifts

published in May 2024

This has been a huge week for us it all started back in April when a friend of The Scuba Gym, mentioned that Queensland Fire and Emergency Services sell their old compressors that are in great condition. So, I wrote to a gentleman in QFES who instantly loved what we did as he researched our little Not for Profit’s website and social posts. He then passed the information up the chain to the powers that be. A long story short we are most incredibly grateful to QFES for our very own Bauer Compressor.

This is just the beginning of the story. QFES then had a conversation with the managing director of Bauer Australia, who also loves the work we do underwater for people with disabilities, and Bauer has come to the party too. BAUER agreed to service the machine for us if we got it delivered to them and then they’d install the machine wherever we wanted it installed.

So, the hunt was on for a little commercial space where I could at least house the compressor that had three-phase electricity so I could fill tanks as and when required. I reached out to several friends with small businesses and one amazing friend happens to own Steinbok.

He heard the story so far and immediately offered to transport the compressor down from QLD to Bauer in Sydney and then to house it in their warehouse until I found a suitable space of our own. The excitement was insane – so many incredibly kind gestures and offers to help, I was blown away by everyone’s generosity.

Another birdy whispered in my ear to check my own electricity supply in my garage as it is where we operate out of for training and housing all our gear. The thinking was that 3 phase power may or may not be as expensive to put into my garage. It turned out I already had 3 phases, and we only needed a plug installed professionally.

Yesterday with the help of our local sparky friend James Hogan Electrical, we got that all sorted. And yes, it continues, Fork Logic in Somersby very kindly helped us out with a forklift as we needed to lift the 350kg compressor off the back of the truck and place it in the right space in the garage.

Friends and fans of The Scuba Gym came to help today - to drive the forklift, learn the process for filling and servicing the compressor, and have a go filling our own tanks.

SO much GRATITUDE to you all beginning with our friend in QLD, QFES, BAUER, STEINBOCK, FORKLOGIC, James, Mark, Dave and Ken and of course hugest thanks to our LES who has done an incredible job looking after our tanks and all our gear for the last 4 years.

What an incredible tribe. I knew we had to have this compressor and had no idea how I would get past each hurdle yet someone stepped up and came to help. This is an incredible example of the kindness that is out there and for me I just trusted, let go and let it happen. And you all made it happen. Thank you for helping us make a difference and welcome to the Scuba Gym Tribe.
